"Michael Myers is a human being who killed his sister when he was six years old. Then he came after you. We just want to know why, we want a glimpse inside his mind."
—Dana to Laurie Strode.[src]

Dana Haines (c. 1980s – October 31, 2018) was an investigative journalist who began an investigation into Michael Myers' massacre in 1978 alongside her partner, Aaron Korey. They both later became victims of Michael themselves after his escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

At some point, Dana met and became close friends with Aaron Korey and the two began working together as investigative journalists which eventually lead the pair to produce award-winning public exposés on murder cases from several years prior.

Meeting with Michael and Laurie[]

Dana and Aaron interview Sartain

Dana and Aaron eventually became interested in the case of Michael Myers and his murder of three teenagers on Halloween night in 1978, resulting in the two travelling to Haddonfield, Illinois to collect information and create a documentary centred around the incident. After arriving, their first order of business was to meet with Michael directly so they met with Michael's doctor, Dr. Ranbir Sartain, at Smith's Grove Sanitarium and asked several questions about Michaels' condition. He then took them out into the sanitarium's courtyard where Michael stood frozen and shackled. Aaron approached him and presented him with his original mask, setting off reactions from several other patients, however, Michael did not move or speak. This angered Aaron and he and Dana eventually left without getting what they wanted from him.

Laurie is interviewed by Dana and Aaron

Dana and Aaron speak with Laurie.

Shortly after the events at Smith's Grove, Dana and Aaron tracked down Laurie Strode to her secluded home on the outskirts of Haddonfield. The two arrived at the locked gate and spoke to Laurie through the buzzer, offering $3,000 in exchange for an interview. After a silence, she reluctantly let the two in and they all sat down to talk within her living room. After explaining their occupations and what they hope to get out of this, Dana attempted to get Laurie to sympathise with Michael, explaining that he would simply need help to recover. After being shot down, Aaron began mocking her words to Loomis in 1978, stating that the "bogeyman" was not real. This eventually led to Laurie stopping the interview and ordering them both to leave, resulting in the two not receiving any valuable information.

Further Investigations[]

That night, as Michael was being transferred to a more secure facility, Dana and Aaron continued their research and listened to recording created by Dr. Sam Loomis from 1978, exclaiming that Michael should be put to death in order to save countless lives.

The next day, in a final attempt at research for their documentary, Dana and Aaron visited the gravesite of Judith Myers and recorded themselves detailing aspects from the night of her death. Unbeknownst to them, an escaped Michael was stalking their movements and watching them from across the graveyard as they studied his sister.

Death[]

Dana worries

Dana worries as someone stands outside her stall.

After finally giving up, Dana and Aaron prepared to leave and packed their equipment into their vehicle before stopping off at a gas station to prepare for the long journey. Dana then expressed that she needed to use the bathroom to take a poop and went to ask the cashier where it was, leaving Aaron behind the car. Once she entered the bathroom at the back of the gas station, she immediately checked for the cleanest stall, ultimately settling for the end stall. While she is pooping, Dana noticed someone else enter the bathroom but didn't think anything of it. Not until the person appeared to start searching the stalls for someone, eventually leading them to stand directly in front of Dana's stall. The person attempted to open it, forcing Dana to hold it closed and instruct the person to leave. After a long silence, the person remained in their position and began to drop bloody teeth into the stall, startling Dana and forcing her to try and make her escape.

Michael strangles Dana

Dana is strangled by Michael.

She immediately darted underneath her stall and crawled into the one next to her, locking the door and holding it shut, crying out for anyone to help. Eventually, Aaron burst into the bathroom and encountered the person, revealed to be Michael Myers, face-to-face for the second time. Dana called out for him to help only for him to be grabbed by Michael and slammed against both the stall door and the bathroom walls, killing him. Dana grabbed a nearby crowbar from inside the stall and backed against the wall, still crying for help. However, Michael eventually entered the stall and picked her up by the neck, holding her against the stall and strangling her until he breaks her neck killing her.[1]

After their deaths, the corpses of both Dana and Aaron were discovered by the Haddonfield Sheriff's Department.

Personality[]

In her partnership with Aaron Korey, Dana was the much more sympathetic one as she wanted to give Michael Myers the benefit of the doubt and believed that he could be cured and given a chance to change. However, this would eventually lead to her own demise at the hands of Myers. She was also much more calm and caring when interviewing Laurie as she knew that Laurie had been through a great trauma, unlike Aaron, who was much more direct in his questions.[1]
