Halloween, originally titled The Babysitter Murders, is an American independent slasher film directed, co-written and scored by John Carpenter and co-written and produced by Debra Hill. The film starred Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis and Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in her film debut and was released on October 25, 1978. It is the first film in the Halloween Saga.

Synopsis

On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith's Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.

Plot

October 31, 1963 in Haddonfield, Illinois, Michael Myers, just six years old, approaches the door of the house and sees his older sister Judith with her boyfriend and the two go to the couch and Michael goes to the window and sees them kissing and Judith's boyfriend wonders if they are alone and Judith says that Michael must be nearby and Judith's boyfriend takes out a clown mask to scare her so they go up the stairs while Michael goes to the front of the house and looks up and sees the light in Judith's room going out and then Michael walks through the back of the house and goes to the kitchen which is completely dark, he turns on the light and takes a kitchen knife and walks through the house and Judith's Boyfriend comes down the stairs stairs and says that it's already afternoon and he has to leave while he leaves and Michael goes up the stairs and takes the clown mask from the floor and puts it on his face and then enters Judith's room, the same one who sees him and calls his name and Michael stabs her nine times until she dies while the boy leaves the house and was surprised by his parents who arrived home and the father and Michael, Peter sees his son carrying a knife and asks what happened and removes the boy's mask revealing the face of young Michael Myers, feeling no remorse for what he did to his own sister.

So fifteen years have passed and now it is 1978 on October 30th, while Doctor Samuel Loomis and Marion chambers are driving in the rainy night to transfer twenty-one year old Michael to be tried for the crime he committed fifteen years ago, so they meet They approach the sanatorium gate but there were patients outside, so Loomis gets out of the car to call security while Michael climbs on top of the car and pulls Marion by the hair making her accelerate the car while she struggles for Michael to release her, Marion goes to the other side of the car Michael cracks the car window with a slap making the nurse get out of the car and Michael gets in the car and escapes from the Sanatorium returning to Haddonfield fifteen years later.

October 31st, Halloween, it's morning and we see 17 year old Laurie Strode leaving the house to go to school, while her father tells her not to forget to leave the key at the Myers house, she walks down the sidewalk and finds with Tommy Doyle and then they arrive at the Myers house which is abandoned, Tommy says that Laurie couldn't go in there because the house was haunted but Laurie ignores the boy's statements and puts the key under the rug while Michael watches Laurie and Tommy then Tommy goes to school and Laurie goes straight while Michael leaves the house and watches Laurie go to school while she sings a song.

Meanwhile, Loomis talks to a man who says he is not responsible for what happened and Loomis says that the sanatorium, due to the lack of security, would not even hold a five-year-old child. The man says that Michael was Loomis's patient and that his care it wasn't enough, Loomis says that he spoke to everyone and no one listened to him and that he couldn't do anything and that the man could go back there and pick up the phone and say exactly who left that night and says that someone at the sanatorium taught Michael how to drive and leave with the car.

Meanwhile Laurie Strode is at school and I decided to look at the window and across the street she sees Michael next to the car he stole last night but was forced to leave the window by the teacher's question and when she finishes answering the question, Michael is no longer there and at Haddonfield Elemtary School we see Tommy being chased by some other students and they say ''he's going to get you'' and they keep repeating this, the boy gets angry as they talk about the Boogeyman to Tommy while the boy falls into the the ground and the other boys run and one of them meets Michael who stops him, scared, the boy leaves while Michael chases Tommy and gets in the car and continues following the boy until he follows a straight line.

  • The film was originally conceived as "The Babysitter Murders" before co-writer Debra Hill suggested the events take place on Halloween night, giving the film it's name.
  • Michael Myers' iconic mask was originally a Captain Kirk mask bought at a Halloween store by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. The mask was painted white, the hair was teased and the eye holes were slightly widened.
